Are Students a menace in your town/ city? - Le_Coop - 2008-11-25 00:08:19 Ha I had loads to say til you started talking about the girls and this is EXACTLY what the uni girls at Durham are like. Passing through over the years (its my local city)I used to think, hmm this scruffy look is pretty hot...and now its like...shit why are ALL the girls walking around here dressed the same...by ugg boots i guess u mean those really warm looking ones....always with the hoodie and loose hair The problem with the youth of today and sadly in student world. Youth life is now a big business. Theyve even managed to commercialise student life. Its a competition now. Who can spend the most nights of the week wasted, who can cause the most problems with neighbours by being the biggest rebel. Who can be the biggest invidual by fitting in with all the other 'individuals'. Its a joke, a real mess. One thing I know for sure, shit music is a great reason to get even more drunk. Its just an extension to school and college now. The only growing up seems to be done the day of graduation. It all boils down to fucking Respect, and there is none. From second or third week of June onwards I do remember waiting for UG bbq which at the time (still is?) was end of July. However, I would like to say a word or two in the 'students' defence. First of all, in Sheffield I found it quite easy simply not to go West Street or some of more cringeworthy Uni. nights. At the same time I found that there was a substantial minority, which felt the same - and all the better for it. This in turn resulted in some pretty decent house-parties as well as a pretty good crowd at some of the more exciting nights. Also it felt like Sheffieldid did have a quite wide-ranging, but not well known scene when it came to different kinds of electronic music. It could simply be a big confluence of events and that we were spoiled, but I did enjoy seeing nights like Urban Gorilla grow, getting ready for Razor, as well as checking the first few nights at Club Pony (which is now at DQ, right?). And when it came to these nights, I didn't think that students were a burden at all. On other hand, it could simply be that I am riding a huge wave of sentimentality. |
