I remember when Chris Waddle went to Marseille for 4.5 million and thinking that was a staggering amount of money for a footballer!

Shearer's 15 million or Denilson's 21 million seemed out of this world at the time, this is ridiculous though.

He hasn't gone anywhere yet! we've given him permission to speak to Madrid, if he accepts their terms (which I am sure he will) United get 80 million quid.

and admit it you'll miss him...

Think of all the interest United can pay off their overdraft with £80m...

But if they did that then, he would never have been the catalyst to win the Premier league for them back in the mid 90s, Fergie would have been sacked, they'd never have won the treble in 99, sold a lot less shirts and would never have been able to get Ronaldo in the first place let alone make him good enough to cash in and make the 80 million...
wooooooooah.
my head just exploded

what about gaizka mendietta. lazio paid 48 million euros and he only managed 20 piss poor games for them :O

hope ronaldo flops in spain like he seems to do whenever utd play a spanish team

Lazio are still paying off Valencia for that deal.

wouldnt suprise me. just read that lazio still owe him wages too. still suprises me that after living in valencia, rome and barcelona that he settled down in north east england with his famliy , turning down offers from american and aus clubs to retire instead

ronaldo will obivously be missed but if we can get franck ribery for 30-40 million then he wont be misssed that much

£80m is a lot of money... - BillieT - 2009-06-11 15:40:14

Do people think Kaka, Ronaldo and inevitably David Villa, plus all the talent they already have is going to match Barcelona? Should be an interesting title race.

Easily revamp the squad with that sort of money. I'd love to see Benzema in the prem.

I'd like to know where Madrid's money is coming from, didn't they announce they were in debt not so long ago... and they haven't even started sorting out their back line yet.

it is no good having all these world class players if you can't mould the whole team together and play a style of football which suits the team and not just individuals. barcelona are as good as they are not only because of having world class players through out the team but because they are played in the right positions with the style of football which will bring out the best in all the players. there is no point in playing the game around a few players granted it will win you games but its consistency which wins you trophies. all in all i can see barcelona dominating next season again but Real will pose a bigger threat this time but just not good enough

that will be epic!

i think (being a real madrid fan) the best thing about these transfers is that when FIFA 2010 comes out im gonna dominate my mates :D
FIFA 2009 was horrible for me, had to play with liverpool most of the time :/

£80m is a lot of money... - Brom Town - 2009-06-11 16:09:10

so has some big player changed teams in the english premier league or somethin?

£80m is a lot of money... - Jamie_ - 2009-06-11 16:13:08

Madrid are going to be outrageous on Pro when it comes out!

They're going to be getting Villa in the next few days as he's turned down Chelsea and Madrid have agreed a fee.
