fornogoodreason Wrote:what so you think tobbacco should be made illegal too? what about alcohol? both are argueablly more dangerous than mdma. and there are plenty of other legal drugs that are far more dangerous than either. you must be having a laugh if you think safety and legallity are related. check this table. http://img261.imageshack.us/my.php?image...416my3.gif
check where mdma (ecstasy) is. that is why you are very wrong. (i do disagree on some points with that study and it depends on what point of view you are taking... e.g. in some ways heroin is harmless, in some ways it obviously isn't)

trust me many people know they are fucking themselves up and simply don't care. what about smoking, everybody knows it is deadly but plently do it anyway. i do agree with you though that more education and information would be useful, and also that scaremongering has probablly done more harm than good. but at the end of the day people who ingest substances (legal or illegal) without researching about them are idiots. people can't expect to be spoon fed everything.

illegality creates a black market also which is an important fact to consider. i believe all drugs shoud be decriminalised. like i said as long as i am not harming someone else why should anyone but me have a say on what i put in my own body.

dave, my writing style and passion and confidence in my beliefs makes me sound more aggresive and unfriendly than is intended. i respect your opinion, it much more balanced and thought through than manys. you are still wrong though :p
yeah i do think tobacco should ideally be prohibited. imo its a completely pointless substance. however im not wanting/expecting it to be prohibited because i know that it would be a nightmare to implement and because its a part of society on such a grand scale prohibiting it wouldnt stop it beng produced etc. plus whoever thought of doing somethng that drastic would prob become most hated man in britain! alcohol is a bit trickier. my arguement for its legality as opposed to ecstacy would essentially be that when used as intended and not abused, it is essentially a method of relaxing and far better for you than ecstacy i.e after a knackering day at work on a wednesday its quite nice to have a pint or two and i can wake up on thursday feeling fine. would it be as beneficial if i racked up a line of mdma? but anyways, if anything the fact that this country has a big enough problem with alcohol and smoking due to excess is reason enough to show that legalising ecstacy wouldnt help matters

but this isnt about if alcohol/ncotine should be legal or not its about ecstacy. regardless of if its less dangerous than alcohol or whatever according to that table (and id like to know what factors they took into account when producing it) its still dangerous! britain has enough of a problem with drugs. legalising them sends out the message to the idiots who already think its fine to go out on a friday night and down 20 VKs that hey, why not do 7 pills while youre at it the govt says ecstacy is fne so you wont harm yourself...

i honestly dont think people know theyre fucking themselves up. smoking is a different kettle of fish because a lot of the older smokers are now addcited and were never educated on the risks of smoking. ive read n quite a few places that amongst young people smoking figures are down quite a lot. you hav to remember that a lot of the risks have only been properly made apparent in the last ten years or so.....

also dont think that by leglaising e you'll take away the black market......presumably if the govt ever legalised they'd whack a whopping great tax on it and probably vastly lower the dosage of mdma. so if youre in a club and you can buy a pill with 5% mdma for lets say six or seven quid, or you can get three for a tenner of that bloke who you know sells stronger ones which one you reckon people will take?

the 'im not harming anyone so why does it matter' arguement is rubbsh too. if something was to go wrong as a result of you taking whatever then you'd expect to be taken to hospital and looked after wouldnt you? therefore wasting hospital resources? or creating an extra workload for some nurse or potentially meaning someone whose in hospital through not fault of their own also suffers? then theres also the arguement that if that was to happen wouldnt you be upsetting those who were close to you? or would you not care abou that?

1) to be fair you can't compare mdma like that. it isn't a relax after work thing. it is an extremely powerful tool. it is a thing that which change your outlook on everything, which shouldn't be abused. taking mdma can shatter your beliefs and changes you. read some of the maps research in to mdma psychotherpy. there was also a good and extremely balanced article in the sunday times magazine.

2) yes it is about other drugs, because consistancy is very important. i would like my laws to have some reason behind them, not we have been getting fucked up for ages on booze so it is ok. magic mushroom use dates back as long as (prob more) than alcohol.

3) i honestly do think most people know they are fucking themselves up, but i can agree to disagree. also i really don't think addiction is an excuse, they know smoking has a good chance of killing them, there are ways to stop, im not saying it is easy, (i wouldn't know) but it really can't be the hard.

4) mdma costs pennies per kilo to produce (it is not like cocaine), and is produced in an industrial scale. i disagree with that, im sure a massive tax will get slapped on but i still think it will end up being cheaper. the costs are in disribution not production. anyway most street pills contain little to no mdma, but my point is there will be little market production production.

5) yes but i take precautions so nothing goes wrong, and when things do go wrong for others, it often because of dodgey pills created by the black market. and i would make the obvious point that most hospitals are full up full of drunks friday and saturday night , and every other day in the week it is full of smokers etc, why is that ok? i know you don't think it is ok, but that isn't a valid point. also alot of costs could be offset by police/prison time currently being wasted on what is many ways a victimless crime.
yes i do care about others, but even if i didn't i don't see how it matters, i should have the right not to care about anyone.
