I was playing hard house in a charity dj competition in Leeds about 5 years ago. Could barely mix cos my hands were shaking so much, came about 3rd out of 6 i think. The sooner you realise that mistakes aren't the end of the world, and most people listening only care about the music the better. :) oh and good luck!

best of luck to you mate, best advice i got off this forum is you can relax, as nobody in the crowd really cares about your mixing, just the tunes you play.
and enjoy! |

Best of luck matey!
First gigs are always a little bit scary but just remember that no-one ever cares that much if something goes wrong. And if you accept this fact, you're more likely to relax, and if you're relaxed then you're less likely to make mistakes. Boom, great first gig! You'll be fine. |

The big question is - did you steal the main acts rider, try and pull thier girlfriend and offend the promoter, isn't that what you're supposed to do if you're "in the scene"?

my first gig was for a uni society event, it was a tuesday i think. started off with some mellow stuff - kid a era radiohead, leftfield, arcade fire's laika, and then i ended up just playing hip-hop cos the only people dancing asked me to play that. major booboo was when i realised that even if it's on cue if you turn up the volume everyone else can here... and i learned this as i played the opening of redman's smash somethin...
i was nervous as hell beforehand and the first song seemed like the longest song ever made, but once you've done your first transition you get into the swing of things. sure it's just a bit of fun really. enjoy! |
