God I love this movie, so awesome. First time I watched it was after a really, really long night so I kind of drifted in and out of sleep, so my perception of the movie was kind of half dream, half real. I watched it again a few days later and loved it.

Just watched Buried, biggest waste of time ever. Honestly no idea how such a film got finished. If you like ryan reynolds you may enjoy it, as the whole film is just him in a selection of poor lighting

2/10

Watched True Grit and The Fighter on saturday. Was pretty underwhelmed by True Grit, could hardly understand a word from Jeff Bridges tho Mat Damon and the girl were really good in it. Generally not a big fan of westerns tho.

The Fighter was great, stayed emotionally attached to the characters throughout, the boxing matches were really well done to the point where I was genuinely rooting for Wahlberg and the acting was top notch all round, especially from Bale, Wahlberg and their mother in the film.

The King's Speech - Enjoyable story and brilliant performance from Firth. Naturally it lacks the grit and edge you might see in other offerings, but you get to see the protagonist trying to overcome not only his anger and fear as a result of his stammer, but his fear of inadequacy as King. On a geekier note, I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of my two favourite Beethoven pieces in the last 10 minutes of the film (the second movements of both his 7th symphony and 5th piano concerto)

127 Hours - Awesome. Again, the central performance is brilliant. I really didn't think I'd be so engaged with such an intimate set up, but Boyle manages to keep things going at a real pace whilst maintaining that intimacy. I love the journey you go on with the character as he constantly moves between raw emotion and calculated problem solving. It's a brilliant study of man in total survival mode and there's a great amount of depth to it, not least in the way the character reflects on his life as a whole, the relationships he has and the decisions he has made and will make in the future.

Anvil: The Story of Anvil - If this is real life, you have to laugh at just how accurate This Is Spinal Tap really is. But interspersed with my laughing hysterically at those moments, are moments of jaw-dropping empathy. In fact, I don't think I've ever empathsised with the subjects of a documentary as much as here. You want to dream their dream, you really do. But their constant disappointment and crushing inability to give up is just so sad. Really well put together, funny, emotional and thoroughly recommended.

The King of Kong - This is a documentary following Steve Wiebe, a maths teacher who is attempting to break the world record for the original arcade version of Donkey Kong. The people interviewed along the way are brilliantly ridiculous. It almost plays out as a mockumentary satirising your stereotypical aging geek. The importance these people place on gaming leaves you screaming "IT'S JUST A FUCKING GAME!" over and over at the TV. Moreover, the way in which the current record holder - Billy Mitchell - is revered by all these ridiculous people makes him the most hilarious egotistical prick in the history of space and time who you will no doubt want to punch in the face, kick in the balls and/or wedgie. Though Wiebe is lacking in the charisma of the likes of Anvil, by the end of it you want him to be the winner he's never been so badly, that you become his number one fan. Thoughtfully compiled, totally ridiculous and a lot of fun.

Never Let Me Go - It was decent, but it didn't offer up enough conflict for me. It just seemed to be moving towards a very depressing ending for the final half of the film (although I understand it very closely followed the book). I preferred the first half when they were children, but Carey Mulligan's performance was really good.

I was expecting more from Andrew Garfield. We never really got to know much about his character through his performance other than his hopeless optimism and fits of rage.

i saw jeff bridges on conan last night and he really seems like such a dude. apparently these "shoes" were really his. he always gets costume designers to come to his house and see what stuff he has himself that he can wear in the film.

I was excited to realize that Seth Rogen is acting in Paul until i saw the trailer and he is actually only the voice of that shit Paul. Anyway i'm going to see it.

Saw The Fighter last night was very well but no chances for an Oscar imo.

So The King's Speech won the Oscar for best film and some other important categories, fair enough. My personal favorite was Black Swan but The King's Speech is my second choice.
Cheers for Natalie Portman who won the award for best actress in leading role.

Discuss.

Good ol' 90s movie man, this kinds of stuff are some of the things i miss from the old days,i mean,i was young as hell back then, but i remember the end of the 90s and they where great.

I remember when you could turn on your tv and watch some good shows on nickelodeon, cartoon, fox kids,or even MTV.Nowadays television is horrible.

Of Gods And Men is stunning, understated yet powerful. the fact that it wasn't even nominated for the Oscars says a tremendous amount about the relevance of the Academy.
