Just watched Arthur, was skeptical going in but really enjoyed it, I'd recommend giving it a watch!

Just watched Never Let Me Go. I was anxious about watching as it was a friend with generally bad taste that suggested it, but it was absolutely fantastic. This quick review at IMDB sums it up brilliantly without giving anything away, which the trailer does sadly.

Quote:"Never Let Me Go" is an interesting, haunting and affecting story of love and jealousy. The story that we see occurring on the surface is fairly commonplace of friends growing up together and falling in love. But the backdrop of this film, which eventually takes over the main story, is science fiction like. It's dark and tragic and thought-provoking.

The world the film is set in is 1980s England and it looks very similar to the real world. But it's not our world and I had a hard time fully realizing all the characterizations for characters in a world that I don't quite know and understand. But it's just such a well done film that my interest was piqued and the story had me captivated, or at least curious, from beginning to end.

The film was incredibly well shot, making dreary England look spectacular but still getting the feeling of damp and cold across. It was also really well cast. The kids playing the younger versions of Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield looked and sounded just like them and were able to carry the beginning of the film. As others noted, Garfield also really stood out for me and his character moved me.

I recommend "Never Let Me Go" because of the high quality of film-making. The science fiction elements are rather subtle so it's more for fans of romantic dramas, but it's an interesting enough film that it can cross into most genres.

saw Monsters last night, bloody excellent film and had everything that was missing from cloverfield/the host/district 9 etc and all on a $500k budget, unbelievable. also a really fresh approach to sci-fi by telling the story of the effect on people's everyday life rather than approaching it from the perspective of the army/special forces etc. moving and tense and full of dread at the same time, thoroughly recommend.

Completely agree with you and just to add: Jon Hopkins did a great job on the Soundtrack!

Just watch this for the 3rd time after recently reading the book!

This quote from the book is inspiring! :

'So many people live with unhappy circumtances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of ones life is the passion for adventure, the joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and
hence there is no greater thrill than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will first appear to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you see its full meaning and its incredible beauty!'

Have you seen Inarritu's '21 Grams'? A similar feel to 'Babel', only on a smaller (yet more emotionally draining) scale. Great cast, too.
Haven't seen his recent film, 'Biutiful', yet...seems like my kind of thing, though.

Also.....he wrote Tommy Lee Jones's excellent 'The Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada'.

Not seen 21 Grams yet but I saw Biutiful at the cinema and it was amazing. On a par with Babel I think.

I saw Masculin/Feminin (1966) for the first time a few weeks ago. I think it's one of Jean-Luc Godard's better films but it makes me want to see more of his work, really.

Jean-Luc's strong liberal views strike me as humorous more than anything. ^^

it's like a cross between Office Space and I Love You, Man. if you liked those you'll like this one. you should probably be drunk when watching it just to make sure though!

Definitely going to see Horrible Bosses when it's out. It's got surprisingly high rating on IMDB for such a comedy and half naked naughty Jen Aniston is enough motivation itself.

Horrible Bosses was one of the worst movies I've seen all year. Only funny part of it was Charlie Day (of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia)....and he plays the same character practically.

The Quiet Earth [85] - Basically a guy wakes up to find out he's the last man alive on earth. Would recommend but beware - 80s acting/hair and it's more of a 'human' film, not a zombie/action/thriller post-apocalypse job.

Didn't realise they'd done a sequel to Cube. Gonna have a gander tonight.

Firstly, Ada is a fucking awesome bot.
Secondly, recently I've watched:

Primer - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390384/
Honestly, loved it. Got slightly confusing towards the end as there wasn't much explanation but I think I got the main jist of it.

Sleeper - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070707/
Woody Allen directing and starring in the film that Futurama basically stole their main premise from.

Super 8 - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1650062/
When I heard about this I thought it sounded bloody awesome. Then I realised it was about a bunch of children which really annoyed me actually. Didn't like it too much in the end.

Delicatessen - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101700/
Weird French black comedy in the same sort of style as Amelie. About a landlord/butcher who serves up humans to his tenants. Got quite weird but still funny.

Currently watching Gattaca. Looks good so far.
