Sat through 'Watchmen' yesterday...........ho hum.
Like Sin City, it looks good but lacks any sympathetic or believable characters. And the ending is just poo.

Also.....avoid 'Eagle Eye' at all costs.......dunno why I'm wasting my time watching this hollywood tosh...

i'm a proper film snob, i just bought the three colours trilogy yesterday and i had a conversation about haneke in the pub last night. just went to see the hangover and loved it, ha. on reflection it was pretty unbalanced, narrative-wise, but hell, i lol-ed.

on a side note - we went to see it in odeon printworks, and as we were walking into the screen, one of the staff members asked me and my gf if we wanted to go to the "lounge" upstairs - apparently it's normally £14 and you can have all the nachos and popcorn you want, and you can buy a drink (beer/wine/etc) and bring it into the cinema with you, and sit in mad comfy seats upstairs at the back. they let us try it out just if we bought a beer! obviously they were trying to sell it, so we'd come back and pay properly next time, but the joke's on them - we're leaving england tomorrow, ha!

Hellboy II - Pretty good but was expecting better. Visually it's absolutely stunning but the story is a bit rubbish and has a few holes. Thought the first one was funnier too.

Just finished watching S. Darko, so bad. Why anyone ever thought that it was a good idea for a film is beyond me,

I've seen Moon a couple of times and really enjoyed it. The idea of the loneliness of being on the moon for 3 years all by yourself got me thinking a bit.

Been working on this new tune over the last couple of nights written from the perspective of someone in that sort of position. I don't feel like I'm doing the concept justice but if you've seen the film you might know what I mean. It's only a 50 second snippet but it gives you an idea...

Let me know what you think!

Lyrics:

Bone on bone
I'm social you know
Soul on soul
A hole in the self

Computer company
A glitch in my sanity

I'm missing you all
And I'm missing myself
I'm missing you all
And I'm missing out.

Great.
Isn't it just? I'll bring '21 Grams' along later: it's a similarly-styled kick in the emotion-balls. Not quite as grand in scale but it does feature some possible career bests from Benicio Del Toro, Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. And some of the same music, if I remember correctly.

Finally got round to watching Paranormal Activity last night.
Frustrating and tedious for the most part. Some good shock moments. Won't be watching it again!

Downfall - Fantastic movie

Many years ago there was light, and that light was the light which was lightening wobble wobble wobble and Erol danced; kids kept him dancing. This is an example of the holy power of apple crumble.

'Apocalypse Now' - Overrated and boring vietnam movie.

Only joking...one of the best films ever made.
Actually ... no! Apocalypse Now does suck! As overrated as Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is a great film.

Supprisingly awesome.
Surely some kind of mix up? The former is - as Talby says - one of the best films ever made (so long as you avoid the Redux version), the latter is a remarkably dull CGI headache.....

Anyway, insomnia has recently lead me watch....

'Wrong Turn 2' - Just........shite.

'Final Destination 3' - better than the second one but still mostly.....shite.

'Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines' - Still.....shite.

'The Hills Have Eyes' - Surprisingly not shite. Apart from the last 15 minutes or so. For a contemporary horror remake (I've never seen the original, by the way), it still manages to capture the feel of the genre's 70's / 80's heyday. Not as pointlessly gory as the Eli Roth-type crap, either.

'Donnie Darko - Director's Cut' - Although none of the additional material is really all that good, the core film slap bang in the middle is still superb. Richard Kelly's odd directorial style adds something that other directors probably would have botched (Having not watched 'Donnie Darko' for about 7 years, I'd not realised how similar in tone, subject and style 'The Box' is to it). Jake Gyllenhall is also top....er....banana.

'Frailty' - Bill Paxton's directorial debut starts out as a really engrossing study of mental illness, family loyalty and misguided religious fanaticism.....and is really good for the most part.....right up until the plot takes an odd turn that it just can't recover from. Shame, like.

Different people different tastes. One of my favorite horror films ever! The second part is not as good as the first, but it's still worth. The third part is great too. The same thing goes to The Hills Have Eyes 1 & 2.

Knowing - HAHAHA why did I see that. Did it even make sense? What is the link between the people who wanted to take the kids away and the crazy number woman related accidents?

2001, A Space Odyssey - Had high hopes and to be honest I was incredibly bored, it was just too...bleak and lonely.

Hana-bi - Amazing but was slightly ruined for me at the very very very end.

A Prophet, just became one of my most favourite movies. That along with The Beat that My Heart Skipped. Jacques Audiard is phenomenal.

Has anyone seen a film called 'The Road'? Someone mentioned it to me last night, said it was ok.

No but Cormac McCarthy is one of my favourite writers so I can imagine it being really great if it made the jump from the page to film like 'No Country For Old Men' did.
