The Adjustment Bureau
Been looking to see this for a while but I was a little hesitant in case I didn't like it. Now regretting not going to see it in the cinema, absolutely loved it. Excellent story with some really thought provoking ideas. Some gripes with pace, tone and the odd unnecessary scene.. but those are easily outweighed by a very well designed and compelling script. Without giving away any spoilers; Personally I felt it could have been pushed into a more darker direction, more emphasis on the Adjustment Bureau being, well for lack of a better word - darker, and them making the elements of the movie more of a struggle for Matt Damon's character. All in all, good show :) |

I had a film packed week this week and unfortunately the good couple of films I watched didn't quite make up for the absolute shite ones IE:
"Fire" - Stayed away with work in a hotel and it was the only film on. One of the guys from CSI is the main actor so I thought it would at least be bearable. Fuck me it was hands down the worst film I've ever seen with the worst story line/acting/camera work possible. I swear they even use the same scene twice at one point in the film (of a car wheel spinning and leaving tyre marks) but I'll never double check because Ill never get within 10 feet of wherever that film is playing ever again. "Hush" - If Fire was the worst ever this one was probably the second worst. Just inconsistent and amateurish. Just not good. "Fast Five" - Complete Toss. Unrealistic looking driving stunts. And as a portuguese speaker some scenes just made me cringe. My fault for still watching these sort of films I guess. Still, will never be as bad as tokyo drift. The good ones: "Senna" - Went to watch it in London on Friday and absolutely loved it. It was very different to see all the previously unseen footage of the man from his first few years in F1 till the day he passed away, as opposite to just "knowing" what happened but not really remembering it as I was too young. Really had a knot in my throat sat in that cinema room watching some of the scenes, and it might have made it an even greater experience that we had the writer and producer Manish Pandey give a talk(and a Q&A, perks of the job) on his journey to find all this footage and testimonials from people who's lives where touched by Senna to put together this incredible homage. I know it's more of a documentary but GO SEE IT! "Idiocracy" - From a documentary to a comedy that nowadays should be classed as a documentary more than anything else. Seen it with some friends after dinner today for about the 4th time and it holds a very special place in my dvd shelf. Mike Judge is a bit of a cool dude and in my opinion a bit of a prophet because I swear since I saw this film for the first time in 2006, I have noticed about 90% of the earth's population seem to be absolute fucking retards. Turn on the tv and you'll see what I'm saying :) Other than that saw "Hallpass" and "The Hangover 2" with the girlfriend which were just averagely crap so not really worth talking about. Got "The way back" on blu ray to watch this week. |

Just got back from watching Transformers 3. A BIG improvement on the second one, but still not great. Loads of pointless comedy moments shoehorned in (John Malkovich's character). Some excrutiatingly bad music, and awkward diaolgue as well. At times the story seemed to suddenly just jump leaving you wondering how the hell something had happened.
On the plus side, some of the robot battles looked fantastic (although perhaps too many). And theres one scene where some chaps are skydiving in wing suits which looked amazing in 3D. http://soundcloud.com/evangelink88 (2012-08-25 16:17:54)TempestDisco Wrote: BRWEEEEEEEEAGH BURR BURR BURR |

uggghhhhhh i've had ran on dvd for nearly three years and haven't watched it.
last night i watched thirst. a lot of it is told in a pretty straightforward, deadpan way, but there are these incredible moments that are just daft that really balance it out. quite long, but worth it. almost like a less po-faced, adult version of let the right one in. |

Haven't watched a new film for ages. Found, to my surprise, that Apocalypse Now and The Thin Red Line have already been released on Blu Ray.....so i bought and watched the pair of them. And they're still both phenomenal.
In fact, the latter seems to become more moving each time I watch it. With Kubrick dead and David Lynch apparently not interested in cinema any more, Terrence Malick's all I'v got left! And, it's perfect timing as I discovered yesterday that he has a new film out, The Tree Of Life. Bet it's not on any screens within 60 miles of where I live.. |

watched fitzcarraldo this evening. batshit crazy, but in a brilliant way. no one does epic, grand-scale lunacy like herzog. i found kinski to be quite restrained, given their other collaborations (that i've watched). his dishevelled blonde mop/white suit combo was pretty inspired though.

I had two movies last night.
Sucker Punch - Enjoyed it. It's perfectly watchable but the idea is not clear enough and the appeal is not well expressed. They wanted to say something but they couldn't do it properly. It is worth watching because of the battles, effects and hot young strumpets but that is all. The Ward - New film by John Carpenter as a director. Not good at all. It's like i have been filming it. The plot reminds of Shutter Island a lot. The only stimulus to watch it to the end was Amber Heard and just to see how stupid will be the end itself. The budget is 10 million $ but it looks like low budget. Seriously bad work. And something interesting i noticed. Insidious has a budget of 1,5 m $ (and profit 53 m $ , just for the record), The Ward has 10 m $ budget. But Insidious looks way more expensive and well shot than The Ward. It's not always a matter of money. |

Transformers 3. First 30 minutes makes you thing good things may come but then an abrupt cut to Sam and his slut GF in the bedroom makes you realize that you thought wrong. Add one of the worst and most unfitting soundtracks to a movie and you got yourself a blockbuster. I love that World Cup 2014 song that plays and cuts off Optimus' speech at the end. Very fitting to end a shitty movie with an even worst song.
The Robot fights were alright. I also like the part where the city is nice and clean and then in 0.4ms and one cut later, Decepticons are controlling the city.... The sunset slow mo pan with the American flag still standing also grinded my gears. On a brighter note I also watched The Mask. I had a ball reliving my past. |

Quiz Show.
Great, lost film from the 90s....critically acclaimed at the time but a huge commercial flop. Shame. Rob Morrow, Ralph Fiennes, John Turturro, Martin Scorsese: all ace....Robert Redford directing....well written character study....etc. Like 'The Insider', it takes subject matter that seems to belong in awful TV movie territory and turns it into thoroughly compelling, tragic human drama. Which means I love it, by the way. |

Watch the making of it film.( or maybe I'm thinking of herzogs meine best fiend) Lots of mental . Kinski seems to of used most his crazy up during that! Him and herzog threatening to kill each other on many occasions . Recently I've watched apoc now on bluray which made it more epic than ever . Gutted I missed the brief cinema re release though And senna which is simply incredible , you can't be too sure when a film is made about such a legend but it does him the justice he deserves. An instant favourite |

Watched Taken and The Girl Who Played With Fire in the last few days.
I'd recommend all of The Girl... films (or at least the first two which I've seen). Really gritty crime thriller with english subtitles. Shame hollywood are remaking it, but guess that means everyone can appriciate the original more. Taken was also a decent watch, a 'bit' over the top in certain parts but generally entertaining and an easy watch |
