Have you seen Inarritu's '21 Grams'? A similar feel to 'Babel', only on a smaller (yet more emotionally draining) scale. Great cast, too.
Haven't seen his recent film, 'Biutiful', yet...seems like my kind of thing, though.

Also.....he wrote Tommy Lee Jones's excellent 'The Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada'.

I actually REALLY enjoyed that :)

I watched "The Insider" again recently. Brilliant film. Also, "The Company Men" is a good watch too.

Thing is, people said that about 'The New World'....and, while it was far from brilliant, it was certainly better than 90% of the shit that Hollywood churns out.

I'd still much rather have mainstream cinema giving us films like 'The Tree Of Life' than 'The Hangover Part 2' (though I've seen neither yet, I should point out).

it's pretty much just a terrible 2-hour screensaver...

(this is coming from someone who was really looking forward to it too - the thin red line is one of my all-time faves)

:'(

Edit: would probably rather watch the Guardians of Ga'Hoole

The series of the trip is one of the best comedy shows I've seen in a while - although I was wondering how all the in-jokes and self-referencing would work in a film. Shame, that.

i think sixs was talking about the series? i was confused too but i don't think there's a film...
well, looks like it is a film now but looks like exactly the same footage as the series?

my guess is it's this one

i went to the tree of life. in one sense i agree with guy. in another, it is pretty astonishingly beautiful and painful at times, and while i won't say heartbreaking as there is a pretty big barrier to any sort of identification and it can feel like a sort of human wildlife documentary, there are some moments of minor tragedy that are as affecting as, in a semi-arbitrary sense, the god of small things. i know that's a book but i feel a comparison is appropriate. some of it just doesn't work, and some of it seems a little shoehorned. but yeah i'd rather watch it again than even think about transformers.

all that said it is a big pile of wank, albeit a very beautiful one.

Good summary aidan. The problem with the nature documentary on people section is that we're so used to seeing everyday life that there's no interest there for me - just seems kind of humdrum and pointless. Especially when the interesting parts of human existence are being presented in a much more enjoyable and meaningful way by the likes of werner herzog.

sry to interrupt your conversation about all that intellectual stuff, but has anyone seen HP 7.2 yet? After seeing that Harry grabbing Voldemort and leaping into the ravine together scene from the trailer i'm kind of cencerned. Is that great hall fight from the book missing? Molly Weasley fighting of bellatrix lestrange? Harry pulling away his invisibility cloak and doing his "The Wand is mine, Tom Riddle" - speech?

Just watched the "extended" version of Limitless. The movie is pretty darn sweet, and I am pretty much a movie Nazi whom hates nearly everything.
