Not really a movie, but I started watching Boardwalk Empire. Pilot episode costed $18 million, apparently the most expensive pilot ever made (it was directed by Martin Scorsese as well). Steve Buscemi is a brilliant actor and is a perfect fit for Nucky, the main character. Super series!

Boardwalk Empire is so great! Series really seem to overcome movies in quality, never thought this could happen, but I really get the feeling that those series are the future were heading to. And I would like that, because the main things I miss in most modern movies are the complex characters and series just have way more time to introduce you to those.
Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men were/are both so stunningly good, I cant wait for more of this stuff coming out btw last movie: Rise of the planet of the Apes - 5/10, pretty boring, was really underwhelmed after reading a lot of good reviews. Though, I have to admit, the CGI effects on caesar were amazing, but the story was just meh. |

^^ If you haven't yet, watch Game of Thrones.
The nice thing about series is that there's more room for plot and character development. Latest movies: Rise of the Planet of the Apes - As Paulos said a few posts ago, went in expecting average, but it was actually really good! Sidenote: Going to the theatre for the first time in months (years?) reminded me why I hate it though, all so disgustingly overpriced! Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides - Don't get why people seemed to be disappointed in this. Was just as amusing as the previous three and Johnny Depp's role was excellently executed as always. |

![]() personally thought it was just ok despite all the hype, I don't seem to be a fan of the spanish storytelling traditions and find it tends to be too ponderous for my liking. or maybe just different to what i'm used to, but either way I prefer some mindfucks in a film and questions at the end, instead of just general narrative (however interesting and well done it may be - which this definitely was) again it's another film that i've seen this year that seems to change part way through, and for me I didn't have anyone to sympathise with in the first part so struggled to really get lost in it. a good idea for a film though nonetheless. worth a watch, I think generally people will enjoy it more than I did also don't read any other reviews if you wanna see it, apparently half of them drop something in which could spoil it for you |

Watched Cowboys and Aliens over the weekend (only because I couldn't get tickets for The Inbetweeeners mind).
Felt like it had all been done before. Really simple and plain. I know there's aliens in it, but one particular part felt totally ridiculous (won't mention it as it's a potential spoiler). The addition of Harrison Ford just made it feel like that last (and cack) Indiana Jones. 5/10 KADKAD: ladies went scissors ;) |

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - Didn't like it. Seemed like it had tried to stay true to the book (which I haven't read) but it was too complicated and had too many pointless characters (like the fat school kid).
Drive - Loved it. Melancholia - Was pretty slow to begin with but I found myself really enjoying it by the end. Some really great cinematography too. Also, off to see Midnight in Paris tomorrow which I've been wanting to see for ages. |

Drive...
Quote:Easily my favorite movie of 2011. Quote:Loved it. sums it up for me really. can't think of a film i've enjoyed more. that sounds like hyperbole but in my defence I do have a terrible memory. but then the film epitomises everything i've loved for the past couple of years style-wise. got dayum, i need to see it again. the ending was just, *mwah* (kisses fingers like an italian chef). took me a while to realise what was going on but... I won't say any more. getting a serious serotonin rush reminiscing about it here. oh and don't watch the trailer... you'll want to see this film fresh. I guarantee if you are on this forum you will enjoy it. |

Colombiana
A typical revenge story. It was alright but there are some weak moments. 6/10 Drive I was disappointed after watched this and I went to read user reviews on IMDB to hear more opinions. Some of them says it's a 'masterpiece', 'best film of the year', but according to most people (despite its high rating) it's 'awful', 'crap', 'overrated, 'waste of time'. And i have to agree with the second. The film was too smooth emotionally. There is no tense, energy, fun, pain, action, fear or anything that you are looking for in a film, it was just boring and pointless. I definitely wasn't expecting this reading the storyline. It tries hard to be arty but misses out the important things like a story line. Also there are no good performers in this film, Gosling is a great actor but he was so dull here. Really nothing worth seeing in this film except the soundtrack. 4/10 The Caller It was dark, creepy and mysterious which i always appreciate but wouldn't recommend it except if you are not into that genre. 5,5/10 Mother's Day Decent horror-thriller 6/10 ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2 The first part was way better. 4/10 Fast Five Definitely the best part of this film. 9,5/10 Horrible Bosses Enjoyed it a lot, but i was expecting just a tiny bit more. 8/10 |
