I'm sure something exciting is going to happen and I'm going to miss it all as I move to Italy in 2 weeks anyway! boo!
This just reminded me of a quote from an essay ive been reading on a different subject (filesharing)

This is "More than an act of destruction, this is an act of creation."

hopefully thats what it will be and we can get away from the vastly overpriced drinks when we want to see a decent DJ or band now.

I must have been going to a different club than all the people who are banging on about the Shindig and it's 'halcyon glory days'.
In all the years it's been open I've probably 2 maybe 3 good night's there. I just have memorys of fuckin' poxy Italian piano house, boring 'REAL' American House, Roger Sanchez, 'big room tunes' and and the 'Happy Clappers', yeah it was well cool. NOT.
Utter gash.
I remember when it first started when it was was at the City Vaults down the Bigg Market, a couple of years after that me and a mate got offered a Thursday night at Bliss after they got booted out cos they couldn't fill the place. I also remember getting a really arsey fax from Alistiar Whitehead's manager when I tried too book him for another mates night, about how out of loyalty to Scott and Scooby he wouldn't be playing at any nights that had we had 'stolen' from them. LOL.

Somebody at uni was talking of putting an end of year party on there like for all the final year students, but they had some questionable questions such as would you like the party to have a theme or fancy dress? I lost interest at this point!

I've been looking into it.

It'd cost 3k before even booking an artist!

NO THANKS!

Fapesta - get what your saying about Shindig being overated but also think that for many kids in the NE it was their first taste of going to a "proper" night.

I only went for about 18 months in 95-96 and then moved to Leeds and got into nights like Basics etc.

But for me Shindig was about being being 17, in a proper club for the first time, off your napper and hearing house music. It was about taking that step from getting off your face in the local park to actually going out and growing up.

Therefore Shindig at the Riverside will always have that nostalgia.

No doubt in 13 years there'll be 30 somethings saying the same about Wax:On at Digital etc etc.
