Rusko on brostep

I can enjoy when one or two dubstep tracks are thrown into a set but even then in the back of my head I think "greeeat, here we go".

It's has become almost a knee jerk reaction at this point. I can tolerate a few songs here and there but that's about it.

Personally, I really don't like dubstep because I can't groove to it..as someone on the previous page said. It's bizarre to dance to because of the erratic tempo and wobblyness of it all.

Granted, a lot of techno and some harder EDM stuff is difficult to dance to as well, but dubstep just doesn't feel right when I hear it. It's like attempting to dance to something at 140 BPM. Even though I can appreciate SOME dubstep I've heard...ultimately, I just don't feel it.

i really cant imagine standing for hours listening to this "brostep" i dont understand its success and really find no interest in mouthing off about it on here, rusko's opinion on it seems interesting. when i first heard skrillex i actually couldnt believe such madness existed, a day later i had alread heard enough. im not massively partial to dubstep, but still do enjoy the odd quality track when i stumble on them

...seriously though, unless you're really good at doing the robot or 'popping,' the only possible way to move rhythmically to dubstep is to nod your head/repeated torso bending


ps. what's is this 'grooving' you all speak of? is it like doing the 2-step? perhaps someone could post a tutorial video on how to 'groove' effectively to 'funky' music?

with Funky it's more of a side to side head movement than a nodding or banging motion.

Dubstep seems to me to be the new indie or pop music, every teenager loves it and thinks its cool, especially students. When it started it was interesting, now it's hard to find anything worth listening to. I went out on 'student night' this week, got dragged to two typical commercial clubs, both of which were playing dubstep all night. Seems to be going the same way as electro house did a few years ago and for me, it's about time. That's my 2 bits anyway but mostly agree with what rusko was saying.

of course its true there is a real dubstep scene but dubstep is much more a fantasy many dj play yeah... they play 2 or 3 tracks max in their set and back to the real shit.....

I'm not sure I understand you, are you talking about DJs in 'commercial-typical night out in town-clubs' or dance music clubs?
If you mean the commercial clubs, then from my recent experience, student nights now = dubstep nights i.e. dubstep is played all night long, not just 2 or 3 tracks.

I'm all for interesting and creative music and I'll check out the artists ROBO posted above, but dubstep is getting played everywhere now, which in my eyes is the same as what happened to electro house. Give it a few months and Black Eyed Peas will be making it.

On the subject of dubstep nights, yes I think many people find them too heavy for the whole night.

But a dubstep set thrown in at 3-4 in the morning when everyones coming down can be so nice. DnB raves work really well like this.
