Hi guys,
yesterday I went to Wasted (Bassix vs Rampage) in Ghent and it was really cool until crissy criss started doing backspins right after each drop. Then the MC would babble a bit and the track would start over from the top. What's your opinion on this? I find it extremely annoying, to the point where I just went to the DnB room. |

I didn't get any backspins there. Honestly, I love Crissy Criss' music. But that was madness :( |

YOUR ALL WRONG!.... Nah jokes, it does get annoying reloading every drop. But I am a fan of them when used in rational amounts!

I'm not a big fan of rewinds, but they do have their place when used sparingly. And I will only ever do them if I have an MC on, otherwise they are just lame.

I got real drunk last night and kept taking the advice of my mate standing beside me and rewound like every track for a while.
I think everyone was as drunk as me though so it's cool. "I focused on the dubstep and forgot the garage and funky. I swore UK garage sounds different....but I listen to a lot of hardcore." |

I'm not a fan of reloads ever. It makes me groan every time. And not in a good way.

I do love a well timed rewind every now n again, if the music is high energy and the crowds really up for it, clapping, cheering, banging on walls, tables barricades etc. But yeah, one or two a night should be the absolute limit.

That, tho I wouldn't put a limit on it, I mean sometimes there souldn't be rewinds, sometimes half of the track could use a rewind. imo |

Just gonna chime in here and say I laughed really hard just at the title of this thread.
And then laughed even harder at the first sentence in the OP. Classic. |

Not a big fan of rewinds, backspins can sound good when used sparingly/well i think though. e.g The mix from Hot Mess to Variations:

Backspins are cool.
Reloads kinda suck outside of the grime/reggae vicinity. |

Yeah reloads can be ok in small doses in dubstep/dnb but in grime they're pretty important. In the right situation they can make the crowd go mad which is cool.
Techno rewinds would be funny. |

Backspins as transitions are fine, but rewinds are terrible.

I'd pass comment but I figure it's just something that happens in other scenes... I still don't 'get' MCs either. Can't see what they add other than extraneous noise and shouting. Never seen one live though so I'm basing my entire opinion on youtube videos, set rips and recordings.

I'll sometimes use backspins when I'm transitioning out of a track, but I never do rewinds/reloads.

I'm not really a fan of MCs either, though I don't really mind them. There was this one time, though, when the MC shouted "boom" at the wrong moment and wrecked the drop >.< |

MCs can really add something to a night but likewise they can also just be really annoying. Remember once seeing Dj Friction with MC Eksman, who was ridiculously good to the extent that he almost overshadowed fresh. Amazing rhymes and flow and a bit of crowd interaction. But then you get alot that just repeat their name and one verse for the entire set.
