i was hoping for more recent innovations?

my last find was the quite awe-inspiring genre fusing shoe-gaze/garage (yes garage!) combo on R & S haha, so something weird like that would be perfect.

The recent Tamaryn album has some good gazing on it, albeit quite poppy.

Not so recent but Ride - Nowhere is an album worth getting.

Alcest?

Although his newer material has some Black Metal influence, as he was involved with quite a few Black Metal acts.

Worrrrrd, Alcest is amazing, I still just associate them with BM but yeah I suppose they can definitely fit in with shoegaze.

yeah tbh, im not feeling the jesu style of shoegaze, dont get me wrong its good, but not modern enough, these days shoegaze (from the brief stuff ive heard) tends to be more lightweight, ive read post-shoegaze quite a bit, maybe that is what im looking for...

for those that care about all things jesu,

randomly i bought a track by pale sketcher, i then looked it up on i tunes, to find out more, its kind of ambient/breakbeat and its jesu! reincarnated! haha cause he has a playlist and in the info section he writes some brief info about his new project. this is the track i bought by pale sketcher...pretty good stuff as u would expect..

I never really considered Jesus and Mary Chain shoegaze, they weren't... well very shoegazey or part of 'the scene that celebrates itself'...they were very good mind. Goth's were more into them, Indie kids plumped for Ride, MBV, Slowdive, Chapterhouse, Lush, Cocteau Twins, Moose, Curve....though the boundary between Goth's and Indie Kids in the early 90's was very blurry.
history lesson over ;)

Hmm.. I haven't heard any comparison to Sigur Rós yet. Mainly it's comparisons to My Bloody Valentine. I don't think he sounds like anyone really. I think it's because I know his background in Black Metal. I'd say my favorite project of his (Niege) is Amesoeurs. I can't even say what genre it'd be, because it's really an amalgamate of all kinds of things.

This one song is just a small glimpse. There's other songs with just a girl vocalist (Heurt, Faiblesse Des Sens) and one with no vocals at all (Gas in Veins). He actually spawned an entire genre dedicated to the combination of Black Metal and Post Rock/Shoegaze. If you're interested you should check out The World Comes to an End in the End of a Journey. It's a compilation filled with it.

In my opinion, they are the pioneers of dreamscape.
