I always found thought that The Magician played the 80's thing too hard. His remixes are ok, nothing spectacular, he should've just taken the backseat to De Luca in Aeroplane, which in fact, WAS spectacular

well since the split, i've liked everything fassano has done and the only Aeroplane thing worthy of my mention is his Human League remix.

Also, I was getting nearly all of Aeroplane's monthy mixes when they were a duo, and now, i'm stuck on the magic tapes, and I haven't downloaded any of Vito's solo mixes.

based on those facts, I have come to the conclusion, that YOU SIR, ARE TRIPPIN'

Well, now that I think about it, I have as of recent liked Fassano's stuff more than De Luca's, but I liked them much, much better as a pair. Also, it kind of contradicts my point here, but the Human League mix wasn't much to talk about either

I still find the split interesting. Their mixtapes/charts have lost most relevance now. The other month they both 2-3 of the same tracks in their mix. Just shows that they are still pretty much on the same wavelength.

If anything it's probably good for us. Means we get twice the output in terms of remixes etc.

Have enjoyed the magician's remixes of The Aiku and Lykke Li. Not spectacular, but solid. And Aeroplane's Gypsy and the Cat and Human League remixes have both been decent.

I feel like the split was the best decision they could make at the time (naming the album "we can't fly" fell into place perfectly). Stephen now has the freedom to include whatever style he wants in his mixes, De Luca can go off and play as much Italio that can fit into that new DDJ-S1 of his. Stephen is maturing and you can hear in Magic Tape 9 that his transitions are getting better and better. Each tape sound very inspired and methodical.

I can't wait to here the new tracks from him and Yusek
Peter and The Magician...

I'm a massive fan of both Aeroplane and The Magician but I think I side with Roland on this debate. The Magician is definitely over doing the 80s sound in his Magic Tapes. I have to be in the right mood to listen to one of his mixes whereas I'm always happy to stick one of Vito's on. When I saw Stephen DJ in a club though it was very enjoyable. In remixes his Lykke Li one was brilliant and the others okay/not as brilliant.

It seems a bit incorrect to say "De Luca can go off and play as much Italo that can fit into that new DDJ-S1 of his" when his mixtapes offer a much wider range of music and not much of it is even close to being Italo.

now this I can definitely understand and accept. I did really enjoy Aeroplane as a duo, and I did get to see them share a stage together which was amazing. Someone else pointed out in this thread that they've been including songs like poolside's do you believe in their recent mixes so they're pretty much still on the same wavelength.

I'd say it goes like this in my opinions;
Aeroplane (pre-split) > The Magician > De Luca's Aeroplane.

Are you talking just mixtapes in that chain or productions?

Cause if you compare Stephen's 3 remixes (Lykke Li, Beni, The Aikiu) to Vito's main 3 remixes (Breakbot, Chromeo, The Human League) - then I think Vito win's by a clear mile.

I dunno if baby i'm yours was really just vito, but even so, the only one on Aeroplane's side I really REALLY like is Don't turn the lights on.

On the other side of the spectrum, I really REALLY like lykke li and both aikiu remixes from the magician, the only one that hasn't seen a lot of repeated play from me is the beni one, but it was given out for free, so i didn't expect too much of it.
also, I don't see any Yuksek + Vito De Luca collabs coming down the pipeline ;)

I was at a classixx show and they played the "Baby I'm Yours" remix before vito and stephen split, so they must have worked on it together.

And it's yusek + stephen not vito

The Breakbot remix was done just before the split but Vito did it alone. After he did it alone he realised there was no point staying as a duo if he was gonna be doing all the productions on his own like he had with the Breakbot one.

More info on the release soon...
Next to The Magician, I started a brand new project with my friend Yuksek called "PETER and THE MAGICIAN"
A first track called "TWIST" will be featured on the next Kitsuné compilation, out this spring.
Here the new ☆ MAGIC TAPE EIGHT ☆
All the best,
Stephen"

I was on a long plane ride, and I kind of came to the conclusion that The Magician was a bit more on the creative side, a little more so than De Luca, but De Luca was definitely more of the actual work/instrumentation/mixing/blah blah blah, a lot skilled than Fassano.

Also, it turns out 2/3 of my favorite Aeroplane remixes (Breakbot/Gypsy and The Cat) were done solely by De Luca.

Sorry my bad, I obviously didn't pick up on the sarcasm when you said "also, I don't see any Yuksek + Vito De Luca collabs coming down the pipeline"…

I thought it was interesting that they both used the transition between Poolside - Do You Believe and Francisco Inferno Orchestra - Me and You in the jan 2011 mix and the magic tape seven.

Either they're still helping each other out or one is following the other…

The Magicians remixes for Lykke Li and The Aikiu are better than anything Aeroplane has put out since the split.

Beg to differ, his Baby I'm Yours remix is absolutely MASSIVE. And the Piper's Song is pretty damn catchy too
