Thought this would be fun/interesting and inject a bit more life into this section of the forum, which I know a few people have been trying to do lately.

Similar to the '5 songs you must hear this week' on the website, try and post something a little bit different that might be a bit unusual and maybe something that goes against typical popular music, then we can all be introduced to lots of new things we haven't heard before.

Basically, If you like music and also like the principles of book clubs but felt book clubs are ultimately lame, then this thread might just be what you've been searching for without even knowing it!

PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE RULES!
PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE RULES!
PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE RULES!
PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE RULES!
PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE RULES!
PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE RULES:
1. Only one song can be posted a day by anyone. i.e. If someone has already posted, you must wait till gone midnight (preferably GMT) to post the next song.
2. Say a few words why you like the song or what it means to you.
3. Must post a youtube/soundcloud/other thing so everyone can hear it without having to go and download it.
4. No one person can post a song 2 days in a row, it's just selfish.
5. Only post good music, no one likes their time being wasted.

So to start the ball rolling:
A great song that everyone knows, covered by a great artist more people probably don't.

One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. I don't listen to enough rock music to really make a statement about their sound compared to their peers but I always felt like they were unmatched in the studio (the percussion break around 3:00 is particularly inspired in my opinion).

Soundboz! You didn't read the rules! Unless you're in a different time zone, in which case I'll let you off. OK I guess we can start with 2 songs but from now on let's keep it to one a day.

No offense to people that have posted but has anyone bothered to read my OP?
New Born is a good song and all but Im sure everyone's heard it, muse are a pretty popular mainstream band. Also saying a bit about why you posted it would help, just to justify it a bit more. I wanted to make this thread to find some new songs, like the ELO song above. I haven't heard that before and it's good. Let's be a bit more creative...

That ELO track is catchy as hell, nice pick! Nice idea for a thread as well.
I'll go for a bit of Midlake - now the weather is picking up a bit, I'm moving from my winter black metal playlists to slightly less bleak stuff, and was recommended The Trials of Van Occupanther by one of my mates, and it's an ace album. Not sure what I like about this song so much, in my mind the harmonies sound like how weird 70s folk-rock would (not having listened to any weird 70s folk-rock):

My favourite drone track by germanys slowest band Bohren & der Club of Gore
I've lost count on how many times I've watched the rain through my window to this (or the entire 'Geisterfaust' album this song is off, for that matter), felt asleep to this on the bus, watched the stars at night on a warm summer night.
Drone is for lovers, especially when the sax comes in at the end.

I guess you must've been too vague.

^ damn, I spectacularly misread rule 1. Looking back it is pretty explicit, I feel slightly stupid.

I hope so. Now I've read and underatood the rule, I've realised it's a golden idea. Stops this being a thread where we are bombarded by pages and pages of youtube vids.

That ELO track has now been listened to a few times, excellent call.

Yeah that was my hope and then everyone could comment on each song. Should I just give up?

Patrick, that Toro Y Moi track is just lovely. Interesting production on there. Now exploring more of their stuff.

Yeah I think it's really good too, think it would make a good instrumental though. I don't like it when the vocals first come in but then they grow on me...
After listening to a few more songs, I'm gonna have to buy one of his albums. Which would you recommend?

See this is why I made this thread! People shouldn't keep gems like this hidden. I'm interested to see what Paolo pulls out of the bag.

Such a beautifully done song. I heard it late last year, right before Fall; it ended up being my soundtrack for pretty much all of October. It still hasn't gotten old, and I don't think it ever will.
