Could not agree more. The Birds pt 1 and 2 when listened together is an epic audio journey.

Fail.

Really, he should have given that away for free. What's annoying is the dipshits on Soundcloud telling him it's better than the original. Adding a boring drum beat for 8 minutes is not an improvement. Completely ruins the mood of that track.

I don't like the idea of Play It Down making money off of something that The Weeknd gave away for free.

You really think The Weeknd didn't make anything on that?

How would The Weeknd make money from something he gave away for free? How is that even possible?

I'm talking about Play It Down paying royalties for rights. Giving away a track doesn't mean people can do with it what they want.

Oh right, I thought you meant he was making money off of the "House Of Balloons" album somehow.

If you take away the sample there is no song, so I'm sure The Weeknd will have been paid for that.

This is an EDIT.

I quite like it, was pretty pissed off that they'd dubbed it as an original, but I reckon they wern't allowed to sell it as a Weeknd edit.

Also wouldn't be surprised if it WASN'T cleared. The amount of big labels that don't bother these days is pretty mad.

Does The Weeknd have merch? And I thought he'd only done like one live show or something?

Also, didn't think it'd be worth making another thread about this...but do you guys have some suggestions for songs / artists similar to the sad-ish, slower vibe of What You Need - The Weeknd or The Willhelm Scream - James Blake?

Thx

They are quite different songs, the list could be huge! Say You Will by Kanye springs to mind.

Yeah they are different but they've both got a slowed down, depressing-ish vibe to them, no? Anyway thanks for the suggestion...But yeah, def thinking electronic, post-dubstep (shudder) production style.

He isn't taking bookings for live sets, which I'm guessing is because he hasn't figured out how to play live yet.

Not the exact style, but what about,
'Marvins Room' by Drake
'You' by Creep
How to Dress Well (anything really by him)
'Treetop' by Clams Casino
