Diggin' the album excluding 1 or 2 tracks. Fun to listen to, especially when driving. I like that they took a new route, dislike it when artists stick to the norm, just for the sake of it. "On'n'On"/Ohio are my favorites by far, listening to them with the windows down was awesome! Was not liking Newlands (from SC preview) but after listening to it more, I am beginning to really enjoy that Manfred Mann vibe from the vocals.

Cool album, no point in comparing it to Cross since it's nothing like it, and no point being a whiny bitch and complaining about them changing. I'll just enjoy it. But "Haters, Gonna, Hate" woulda been a way more appropriate album title as that will pretty much some of 95% of everyone's reaction to this album.

While many may shoot this new "style" down, I will be extremely surprised if within 2-3 this arena-rock-electro doesn't become the new style many will try to emulate.

I never understand why people throw around this meme that past virtues make up for poor exploration of new styles, and that if you don't dig the new style you are a HATER (boo! hiss!). It comes out pretty much exclusively when an artist tries something new and slumps (see: Bjork - Biophilia).

If this album came out without the name attached it would receive absolutely no fanfare, trust.

From listening to the medley, the album sounds like it will be just okay. But the fact its Justice returning I was hoping for more than just okay.
I was hoping they would bring a different style, and they have, kinda, but the standard just isn't as high. Its like they were thinking "okay, its been a few years, time to release another album" without any of it feeling really inspired.
Plain and simple, the music just isn't as good as it was. Its just okay.

I think you are extremely wrong there. It's obvious they were inspired. In fact they sounded really excited in their interviews about the new album. If they were not inspired like you say we would had a really bad Cross 2.0 in our hands.

Extremely wrong? lol
I havn't seen any interviews, I'm just going by the music. Its nothing special. Theres a couple of tunes in there I'm liking, but none I'm loving like I did when I first heard Cross. New style or not, I just feel like the standard has dropped a bit.

I feel like they've made exactly the album they wanted to make regardless of fans and expectations, which I'm totally okay with.

I don't agree but is there any difference with other famous DJs?

imo this is a complete change from what justice were and the only reason I'll take the time to listen to the album (as most of the previews have been somewhat underwhelming) is because it is by justice. If it was not justice and some random punter on hypem I would have ignored it after civilisation.

and no there is no difference with other famous djs...if you have a big enough fanbase you can afford to slightly change or 'evolve' your sound, you'll lose some fans but gain others. How people will react to this is anyone's guess, personally I don't think I will like it.

that's how it works man.. if it was some other group that made Canon or Newlands, people would go "meh". their transition is really great tho, i mean its really hard to just put what you are doing aside and start with something completely new. it is impressive and hard to pull.

if i had heard either canon or newlands on a blog or hypem or other mp3-blog-hype site and if it wasn't justice, i would have liked it but for like 10 days. after that i would probably forget that such track even existed and go on with my life.

but hey, i rather hear 493082432 more songs like this from justice rather than 403928432 shit songs that gets released everyday on beatport.

I dont suppose theres any other aussies on the board going to the world premiere of hearing the album on thursday night at '21 Club'?

I'm sceptical of its so called 'world premiere' but none the less, hearing it all the way through for the first time on a club system is going to be sweet.

I'm really feeling this new stuff, not anything I'd play in a set, but stuff I'd listen to when I'm in my room or out somewere.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. While it's ultimately not Cross or Planisphere (which is slightly disappointing) I feel like they succeeded in making the type of album they wanted to, and I can totally respect that, and while slightly let down, I do enjoy this one. This was essentially what we should have been expecting from the very first hint of detail about the album. My friend interviewed JFK earlier in the year and he said that it sounded like a band practicing, which is pretty much true. And they've been using the term "arena-rock" this whole time so, we shouldn't really have been expecting cross part two.

I think the time elapsed between this and Planisphere has a lot of weight too in terms of how their vision and tastes have changed. These guys are dorks, and the hard hitting electro sound of Cross never really felt fully connected to them in my opinion, so I for one are happy they did something completely different.

And I totally agree that this guitar wielding "arena-rock-electro" is something we start to hear more often.

Also like to add that while many may have been expecting more Cross, this guitar inspired electro comes as even less of a surprise since Xavier played a big part (1/2 producer) in Jamaica's album.

And here is a review from this guy at toomanysebastians.

http://toomanysebastians.net/2011/10/13/...um-review/

its a very cool story bro, indeed. This review will please many, I found it lazy, shallow and rather pedantic. But then again I find all music reviews moronic since it is just an attempt at getting attention/ranting/showing musical superiority...

Absolutely massive fan of theirs, but fuck me this is just poor for their standards. I really like Canon but it's hard for me to like this. I know they changed directions/visions and all that but they seriously could have done so much better with this concept. Hopefully this grows on me....

I don't think it's possible NOT to think about Cross while listening to the new album, for me Cross was something really fresh and amazing. Although I don't have a 320kbps version of the album, it really sounds like an unfinished album, like demo songs.

possibly, one of the worst reviews I've ever read.. just pathetic. get up off your ass and try moving/raising the bar like they did, TWICE, and we can talk.

I agree absolutely. Not liking the album is one thing, I can understand it dividing people - I happen to think it's fantastic - but at least express your opinion in a way that gives it some credibility. I couldn't decide which bothered me more, the awful writing or the fact that the writer clearly thought he was hitting some side-splitting comedic heights.

This album is fantastic. Even if you only give it a second listen because it's Justice, pay attention to the instruments and what they're doing with them and you may change your feelings. The inspirations may be different (haven't looked into it, but at times I've even wondered... Jethro Tull?), but the talent is very much there. The one gripe I have so far is that the percussion is nowhere near as crisp, and that hurts some of the songs that may be a lot more dance-friendly otherwise. At this point I'm hardly thinking of this as an electro album though, so that complaint is a little less important.
