Looking for some decent studio monitors for home production. Something around £300 mark, BUT if I can spend less and get decent quality it would be ideal. I have been looking at KRKs. Suggestions please....GO :)

I'm looking at the KRK RP5 G2s myself, but won't own them until my birthday next week. But I've read lots of good things.

^ Yamahas out of his price range I think. Also those Fostex don't appear to get as good reviews as the KRKs. All in the hearing I guess, but what is it about them you recommend?

Good job, I've just bought the ones Santero linked to on gumtree. I've needed some monitors for a while and these look great, so thanks!

i have a pair of krk rp-5's, they do live up to the reviews, ideal for a first pair of monitors, but one thing i should add is if you can stretch to the 6" or 8" cone; (maybe this applies to all monitors) that would be beneficial; purely because the bass reproduction of the 5's aren't so great compared to that of the 6" 8" cones. my friend has the 6's and the low end is a lot better than my fives; they have a tendency to start waffling when driving heavy bass playing records). i have read there is not much difference between the 5" and 8"'s. on the other hand you can get the sub from their range later on as i'm intending to do. other than that, the krk's are worth it

do you remember the other day i was telling you about progression?

One of my Alesis M1MK2 just died for the 2nd time now, looking for an alternative, those Samson seems good, are they durable? I tend to play quite loud during afterparties :/
I also saw the Samson Rubicon R10S Active Subwoofer, any word on this?
How much extra would I get from the R8A's compared to R6A's?

I've heard good things about the Mackie MR range - good bang for the buck. I was a hair's width away from getting a pair MR5's before my bank account got choked and I no longer had the money/the patience to save up any longer. I ended up just getting a decent pair of headphones.

I have them and I like them. In my experience you can just hear more stuff in the low frequencies then on 5 cone speakers of a similar price. I also think they are a good compromise between linearity and fun to work with.

so what's everyone got against KRK monitors then? I have the Rokit 6" G2s and i've liked them quite a bit .

I even played a club where the dj booth was quite isolated from everything else, and I set them up in there to give me the full range of sound rather than just loud bass with muffled midrange and treble

I'm about to order KRK RP6s and I'm sure the sound will be great after the reviews I've read around.

Do it, probably the best monitors I've heard so far.

I've got a pair of the older shaped KRK Rokit 5's that I got second hand around 2 years ago, they're ok. I've not liked the lower end on any KRK monitors I've heard so far (Rokit 5's 6's and 8's).

sorry to bump an old thread but I have been looking to upgrade my decent m-audio av40s since I now have cdjs and all that jazz and the speakers just cant handle them... (they also seem to be dying a slow death)

Ive heard KRK5's already and I am indifferent towards them, the one thing that bothers me is its lack in the low-ends. (Big diff from KRK6's? or8's) I am not a bass whore but can anyone suggest speakers that would serve a great dual purpose with a nice kick? Use to mix and to listen to music. $$wise well my max would be around 500$ for 2 but if the quality is there Id much rather spend more for something that I know I will benefit from.
