Via Pop Justice on Twitter.

Opinions? How would it even work? Overbrook's involvement could mean Jazzy Jeff getting involved, I reckon he'd make a pretty awesome judge.

I'm guessing it will end up as a 'ooooh, who can do the best 'mash-up' in 2 minutes' kind of thing, like that DJ Hero game which flopped (at least i think it did).

Who can play the best hour and a half set would be a fun way. Either that or whoever can EQ the shit out of the coolest track.

I think the first rule should be no laptops.

But realistically speaking, yeah, it'll probably be best mashup.

Nothing would make me happier than an hour and a half of DMC style battles on ITV every Saturday night, I can't see that being a profitable TV show though. Auditions are going to have to be kept to a couple of minutes, so perhaps contestants will have to make mini-mixes.

I don't think a no laptops rule would be enforceable, because mass audiences don't want to tune in to watch turntablist nerds on the wrong side of 30 playing old funk breaks, but conversely I don't think they would wan't people coming along and using Ableton for a few minutes. Showmanship is likely to be taken into account by the judges.

What type of DJ do you think would benefit from this type of show? Would anybody here apply for it, hypothetically? I think I would...

I'm looking forward to the 'Jesus Arms vs Fingers Heart' debate amongst the judges, it's going to be powerful stuff.

This has to be the best prank press release of all time, right? And by best, I mean that it has the potential to fool people into printing it.

I'ma call Syco's press folks and report back

Hope it's not on at the same time as Take Me Out.

I think they should get Erol for the judging panel. I could see him and Simon Cowell working together.

This is going to be awful. I can't wait for all my friends and older people talking to me about this when it comes on; the fury pouring out of my eyes.

Willing to bet obscene amounts of money that David Guetta is on the panel.

what's this? more people complaining that the mainstream music industry only wants to generate one hit wonders to plug the gap between their real big stars - with the added bonus of extra air time so people can act intellectual and above themselves for deriding it?

yes. yes it is.

This just won't work. DJing is not a visual art in the main, and mainstream audiences don't really know or understand what a DJ does, or when they are being good at it.

With dancing or singing programmes, even Joe Schmoe can have an opinion based on some sort of knowledge.

Its going to be boring and shit.

My thoughts exactly, I just can't imagine the audience for this show being on an x-factor/pop idol scale. And really, how would this even work? Singing/dancing competitions are perfect because the producers can pump ten minutes of ads between each contestant's four minutes on stage, will each DJ perform a quick mash up? How will the auditions work? How will there even be an audience willing to sit in for this? Sounds like a sure-fire flop.

Simon: "Absolutely superb! It could have used a few more Jesus poses, but grabbing the microphone and drunkenly wailing Bohemian Rhapsody is exactly what this competition needs."

Cheryl: "Ah think yez coulda used the filtah's bettah, but ah luvved yez use of the roll effect."

Louis: "I thought your beat-matching was excellent and I like small boys."

Burst out laughing in a public place. Now I'm getting weird looks.

I think this kind of resembles what I imagine would be the DJ(aka rockstar of our days) equivalent of those soppy contestant intros they do on x-factor

Which if so, raises a few issues:

1- Money. Whoever's got the cash to buy the fancy touch screens and the led jacket that doubles up as space for Simon Cowell to place an advert on , is the winner? No need for a competition then.

2- Skill. "Hi I'm DJ MIXTHEBEAT and I've come up with this futuristic DJ technic which is...oh gosh I know it sounds daring but trust me, I'm gona slap my nasa drums...wait for it... to the beat of party rock! Yeah like, at the same time".
Woopity fucking doo.

3- Format. With everyone nowadays wanting to be a DJ how are they gona fit everyone in? How can they judge the "let me take you on a journey" value of a 2 minute mix??
Furtherwith, the people that find it hilarious that a fat spotty chavy girl can't sing and makes an idiot of herself on stage, aren't really gonna laugh at someone trainwrecking a mix...cause there's nothing funny about that.

This has to be simply an amazingly elaborated joke.
Haha you got us all, very funny. now stop.
