does anyone remember "the joy of decks"? Tom Middleton, Mr C, Roni Size as mentors...? same sort of idea maybe.

I'm also having my doubts following that article, however it could just be poor journalism.

If it is a hoax, then it's done a pretty good job of fooling people, as well as giving DJs a chance to show the world how seriously they take themselves; to an extent not seen since DJ Hero had the AUDACITY to cheapen the noble calling by releasing a video game about it.

either way sister bliss was a mentor too

tom middleton took his guy all over the place sampling sounds and cool stuff but he ultimately won the night by dropping jet 'are you gonna be my girl' to a crowd of drunken idiots

pretty much. obviously it sounds like a pile of poo from people who don't really know what they're on about, but the average dj griping about this is just embarrassing himself. i was going to write him or herself but let's be honest, it's mainly boys doing the moaning.

it is surprising. He must'ave been paid a fair amount for his first gig to be able to just splash $500 on a mouse head...unless he's referring to his first big gig.

I should imagine the most recent led one has to have cost a few thousand.

Deadmau5's logic seems very skewed. He's suggesting that with a programme like this, underdogs and promising new creative talent will get a chance to show their stuff to the world where once they couldn't. If you were to follow the same line of reasoning, then shows like American Idol and Britain's Got Talent would be full of interesting musicians or performers pushing the boundaries of what's considered conventional/mainstream. The reality, of course, is the complete opposite: these programmes are awash with safe, well-known songs sung by people who producers know will generate huge amounts of viewers. So you can watch it and enjoy or whatever, but I don't think you can kid yourself and justify this show by saying it'll give opportunities to creative producers/DJs because I'm pretty sure that's the last thing on Syco's mind.

The thing I don't understand about this is how they'll create those characters like they do in these other programmes. Susan Boyle, for example: people making all these judgements about her based on appearance, and then she starts singing opera and the audience start crying and so on. It's complete manipulation based on impressions and expectations, and it works. But what's going to be the equivalent for a DJ?

Maybe they'll flip-reverse it. Have a DJ come on who looks like Babar, who everyone will expect to play bangers, but then only plays music without drops.

Agreed.

I'm not a fan of deadmau5' music but he is talented and seems like a reasonable guy etc. however most of his fan base are just know nothing follow the hype idiots. The kind of people that would watch the show.
I suppose that's maybe why he's siding with the idea.
