I realised the other day, I'm so out of touch with new guitar music. I used to buy NME every week and get all excited about bands with stupid names my friends had never heard of. Now I get all excited about new DJs/ producers with stupid names my friends have never heard of.

Every now and again though I do miss listening to something brand new and guitar based. The only new stuff I've got in the last year or 2 has been new albums from bands I already knew about/ liked.

This may well be the wrong place to look, but seeming as pretty much everyone here shares my music taste, I thought I'd give it a go.

Who is/ are your favourite 'new' band(s)?

Django Django, Kindness & Tennis are the latest bands' albums i really got into. Jack White's got an album coming out that should be good.

Yuck & Tame Impala are also great, got into them through here actually

Pulled Apart By Horses released their second album in January, one of my favourite guitar bands.

Two Door Cinema Club are ace too.

Saw Tame Impala at Glasto last year and was really disappointed. just seemed like a 40 minute jam session, no energy at all, so never bothered listening to the album, maybe I prematurely wrote them off...

Love TDCC, just checked out the Kindness album, also very good.

Pulled Apart by Horses are a bit too mental/ heavy for me, again saw them at Glasto and wasn't really into the craziness of it all.

i enjoyed tame impala's set at glasto but then i was already won over by the album

they did seem a bit over-awed by the whole thing, that was just the park stage, can't imagine they filled the main stage any better

Not very new but I've also had Maximo Park on heavy rotation recently.

Saw them on the Pyramid Stage, extremely hungover, on an overcast, almost rainy early slot. Don't think they had much chance of winning me over that day!

I've seen them twice, both times on small stages and they really blew me away. The few mates that came to see them with me who hadn't heard them before were completely won over too.

Not given Pond's album a proper listed yet.

Graham Coxon has just released a new album that has had some good reviews but I haven't heard it yet. I really like his early few albums and apparently it's a return to that kind of style.

Got some great things from this thread, Pond & Lee Ranaldo albums are amazing!

Also check out this Dutch guy called Blaudzun, his work + live show is great. It's a bit Arcade Fire at times, which is of course no bad thing, and sometimes the vocal melodies are a bit Radiohead-ish, so definitely worth checking out. His latest album is called Heavy Flowers.

Other Dutch acts like I Am Oak and Luik are also great

wooden shjips - west
mark lanegan band - blues funeral
king creosote and jon hopkins - diamond mine (jubilee edition)

all of the above are superb, diamond mine was my favourite album of last year, there's only a few extra tracks but king creosote dressed as the queen on the cover makes it well worth mentioning here

also the evens have released a new double a side with an album in the offing
