Pretty simple tbh. I have an interview here http://www.thinklocally.co.uk/ tomorrow. First proper office job in a long time so I'm trying to get everything sorted. Got an idea about what questions they'll ask and already got a few answers ready. BUT....
The one thing I'm concerned about is what to wear because... -They go on about supporting "indies" (in terms of independent businesses) -They are obviously a publishing/marketing company. -And the post I'm applying for is low down in the ranks (Office Administrator) So I'm a bit concerned that turning up in a full blown suit and tie might be a bit much... Anyone got any thoughts? To be fair, you'd find it hard to outwit gravel -SSD o Twit Twoo o Soundcloud ^ New side project of mine ^ |

It's better to be overdressed than look like a bag of shit (in their eyes if not yours). Even if you never wear a suit in the actual job role, it can't hurt to wear one to the interview.
If you get there and it's definitely overdressed then you can always lose the tie. See, this whole 9-5 transition of the forum does have it's perks! KADKAD: ladies went scissors ;) |

I'd say a suit and tie would still be the most appropriate. Plain white shirt, and basic one-coloured tie, nothing overly flashy for this one.

If you're worried that you will over dress, just wear pants, respectable shoes and a shirt and tie. That is smart, but not overly smart like a full blown suit, so it's kind of in the middle.

Dress to impress & always turn questions about your 'weaknesses' into positives. Smile lots and plenty of eye contact!
The question I always find hard in interviews is "Why should we hire you over the next person?" |

Yeah, wear a tie - I always go for a plain black jumper instead of a suit though.
The question that always gets me is the 'give an example of how you are dedicated to equal opportunities' or whatever. The public sector definitely has a knack of thinking up some seriously bureaucratic hoops to jump through.... edit: bloody hell, what a boring twat i've turned into :-o |

Ha, I actually did a sign language course at work for six months or so each week. Will be saving that up for a future answer! Not that I can remember any of it. Anyway, good luck for today Robo! http://soundcloud.com/evangelink88 (2012-08-25 16:17:54)TempestDisco Wrote: BRWEEEEEEEEAGH BURR BURR BURR |

Wearing, suit, tie, black jumper. Figure I can just take the jacket off if I look over dressed.

Give it hell and good luck. Try not to run much more though - jumper and suit? I'd be sweating my little titties off.

Cheers for the help guys. Went okay but think I fluffed it up on a question or two.

They actually mentioned that. It's a template based website design from "wix". They're working on a new design.

I'm interviewing at the minute - feel the harshest ever when my questions stump the poor lambs. I never thought about that when I was on the other end, but interviews are shit are for everyone involved.

^ agree with that. So much you have to think about when chairing one as well, making sure you're gettin the best answer, putting the person at ease etc.

For every question make sure it rounds off with a clear, concise answer.
Take your time thinking about things (or pretending to think if you've got the answer learnt by heart). Stay positive, show enthusiasm, being a bit nervous is fine - if anything it shows you care so don't worry about it. Do as much research about the role and day to day tasks as you can, you want to make it as easy to choose you as possible, show them you're practically doing the job already. Edit: Just realised all you were wondering about was attire, ah well. |
