RA Wrote:Initial details have emerged regarding the next full-length from Steven Ellison, AKA Flying Lotus.

Pitchfork reports that the forthcoming album—his fourth in total—is titled Until the Quiet Comes and is set to be released through Warp. It follows on from 2010's Cosmogramma and 2008's Los Angeles, both of which were put-out through the long-serving UK imprint. After his appearance on the Cosmogramma's "... And The World Laughs With You," a further collaboration with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke is said to feature on the new record. Speaking to The Stool Pigeon last week, Ellison said Until the Quiet Comes would include "more moments that are banging" than its predecessor.

Warp will release Until the Quiet Comes on October 2nd.

Seems to be a good year for albums so far.

So listened to this on my way to work today, really strong on first listen, found it completely absorbing. Looking forward to a repeat listen on t'way home.

Listened to it before going to bed last night. Wasn't sure whether I liked it until DMT Song came on and everything after that blew me away. Re-listened to the first half and properly "got it". Think I was expecting cosmogramma a bit too much...

DMT (the song) is magnificent. Really liking Tiny Tortures as well.

Funny. my initial thoughts were that it sounded a bit much like Cosmogramma Pt. II. That's certainly not a bad accusation to hurl at a record, but I think I was expecting a bit more deviation from that sound.

Repeated listens have proved most pleasing however.

he actually said this album wasn't going to sound like Cosmogramma. that he was taking a different direction, which he did.

it only sounds like Cosmogramma because it's the same Flying Lotus that's behind every release of his'. you can spot his 'trademark sound' from miles away

Totally. It has always seemed daft to me to criticise someone for sounding like themselves. Surely to have that distinct a sonic identity is a good thing?

That having been said, I still think it sounds like half of the tracks could have come off Cosmogramma (this is a good thing!)

^ Definitely a good sonic imprint to have, I wish my productions sounded half as intricate and beautifully sequenced.

Also, The Nightcaller is a really amazing way to follow DMT. So happy with this album.

most times, that kind of criticism comes from people who either don't have enough sensitivity to realize how much work and/or luck is involved in getting such a good sonic identity right or, in some cases, just plainly frustrated with their own projects, be them musical or any other enterprise

of course it might simply be the case of not pleasing their taste, but even then, you should be able to understand the complexity of it

I'm going to risk being chewed out, but even Babar The Elephant is someone I consider a descent producer, in terms of the consistency of his (3x-overused) sound.

FlyLo is not one to be fucked with with such criticism
