Records that won't be worth buying due to over hype.

MSTRKRFT VuVuVu
New Sebastian track.
Disco Sirens (Boy 8-Bit mix)

NO ONE will play any of these records coz you'll look like a mug if you drop them within a week of release release. Not keen on the first two, but really liked the Disco Sirens track. However, I doubt you'll hear it played out past the end of the month. The other two records seem to be making their name just because they're not released, no other reason. Neither are very good.

Other stuff I'm sick of hearing/reading about include.

1. DVNO. Could there be any more threads about these incredibly average remixes?
2. Surkin. Boring. I'm sick of noisy synths and abrasive arpeggios. Anyone remember when dance music had a tune?
3. Boys Noize. (Alright, he chops a few records about and does a few quick mixes. Please everybody, don't be blinded by it and like many people who've commented on the numerous threads about him, and think this is some incredible, fresh 'new mixing style' and start typing furiously about how amazing it is. Jeff Mills was doing that shit in the 80's folks. If I never read another, 'Wow this guy is amazing,, blah blah' comment again it'll be too soon.

Rant over.
I could see myself playing almost everything you've mentioned , am i going to look like a mug? can you give me some tips on what wont make me look like a mug. That would be much appreciated thankyou

Yeah, you'd have thought the people who run these blogs might be kind enough to let us know if they've added any of these tracks to their sites...
So I need to get something straight and I cant say Im overjoyed.

Over hyped tracks on hypem/blogs/discussion boards like this/etc that appear way before release are a no go for experienced DJs to play on their release??!! I want to know what Im dancing hard to on a night out. Yes its good to hear unheard of good tracks that make you ask the DJ what he just played but thats exactly why sometimes you loose the excitement if you dont know any of the music in my view. I actually make a habit of playing older stuff that a lot of people will know to keep people keen.

So what youre saying out house is that only DJs at the lower end will be playing these 3 tracks after release and the better more experienced DJs will be playing erm...well I dont know, some stuff that doesnt conform to the 'sceney blog stuff'?

The DIM remix reminds me a bit of Modeselektor

I mean, when I saw MSTRKRFT dj last summer I almost fell asleep. So boring and predictable. It's almost as if they underestimate the audience knowledge and love for dance music. One banger after the other played with the flatest sounding mp3's...An audiophiles nightmare too. I can't believe these guys don't get tired of their game but I guess they feel they gotta play to their target audience. Which they believe are 20yr old males who just got into clubbing. What happend to surprises? I'm over this bloghouse shit.

Play them, but dont go for overkill, dont fill your set with just these songs, or you'll sound just like every other DJ thats playing this sort of stuff out. Pick a few you really like and fit them in, find some other stuffg you like that maybe isnt quite as well known or played out. Dont just rely on blogs or Erol's setlists to find out about tunes, go on beatport and just listen to some random tunes and see if anything tickles your fancy...

One persons good shit is another persons worst nightmare.

But yeah randomly scrolling around beatport etc. and stumbling across something youve never heard of before and it sounding like everyone should know about it is always a bonus

the hype thing reminds me of when I listened to loads of DnB around 1996-2000. Big DJ's would have the best tunes on dub plate for 12 months, then the DJ's that had access to promo's would have the tunes for the next 3 months, then, finally, after 15 months of waiting. the ordinary punter would be able to buy the tunes. by that point they had been hammered for far too long, no-one would be arsed about hearing them and the big DJ's all had new dub plates

as a bedroom DJ it made my life unbearable....woe is me.

Both threads of the same strand of truth. VuVuVu and Motorare so overhyped, any DJ, thats ANY DJ playing these within a week of being readily available will get mocked. Straight up. All the poxy little blogspotters and hypesters will be giggling and winking at each other as if to say, 'Mug, get over it'.
Now it's not coz they're crap records, (that just happens to be my opinion,) it's because of the snidey little, 'Hype it, blog it, rinse it, if anyone else even mentions it stop playing it!' fuckers have far too much say in so called 'taste making'.

You find me 1 DJ playing ANY of those records to decent sized clubs within a week of them coming out and I'll pop round yours and suck ya Dad off for a fiver.

I know what you mean but I don't think there's that many geeky tunespotters out there listening out for every track. The vast majority of people at these nights won't have heard the songs before. It's just the saddo internet nerds like us that think songs are over-hyped/played.

I definately agree, and i already do what you have mentioned. But according to 'I love out house' you are going to be laughed at if you play Motor.
Would have to agree with le-coops views & as stevie touched on 'The vast majority of people at these nights won't have heard the songs before'

I wouldn't worry about (not) playing specific songs but you need to inject a bit of your own personality into your sets and you can't do this if you play 'top 20 blog house hits'.

I Love Out-House was just using those songs as examples of songs he perceived to be over-hyped. To just focus on what he says about those 3 songs is missing the point a bit.

This used to annoy the hell out of me as well. Was literally the worst thing, and made the scene massively stale in my opinion. The dub plate culture in D&B has kept the same DJs at the top of tree for far too long simply because they had first access to the latest tunes. As a result they have monopoly over things regardless of skill. Take a DJ like Nicky Blackmarket, he gets new tunes but is a shit DJ and constantly did the same mixes, i think I heard his Chopper in Original Nutter mix about 100 times, but 'cos he's big and owns a record shop he's still a massive name. D&B people also are anti-CDJ and laptop DJing, I imagine this is purely for the purpose of retaining this dub plate culture and stopping talented DJs from coming through, but then they'll claim it's 'cos they love vinyl. Utter bollocks!

I value your opinion but I also think you are very much mistaken.

If you play in London and the clubs are full of kids who are hyped up blog freaks who have played to death all the recent hits on their Ipod and they stop dancing when you play a recent release then fair enough, bit I dont see it happening....anywhere, and especially not in the north east.

If I had a club gig and Motor was released that week, I would play it....without a doubt and I know decent DJs who would do the same thing.

For starters, noone (average good DJs, not the big ones) has a copy of vuvuvu or motor that they are playing out that I know of or else im sure it would have hit the blogs or sharing in good quality. People have seen and heard youtube clips. I was sceptical about Motor til Busy P played it at Bordeaux. The only people who didnt go mental were the ones too drunk to even stand up.

Now then....say its gets well guarded before release and then on day or releses someone buys it and it gets uploaded. Anyone who has a gig that month who are into this type of music would love to play it out.

Most punters who come to get leathered and jump around to electronic dance music dont sit at home all day and night downloading gigabytes of their fave 20 blogs. And even if they did lets say, they are certainly not going to have a giggle at a track they only just bought/downloaded last week when you play it. Id go as far as to say they will go mental just like every other fucker in there who hasnt bought/downloaded it but are well aware of it and like it.
