But you don't just let them listen to it, you let them download it as well. That just reduces the chances of people bothering to buy the music, especially if they're getting them from places like Beatport where you can purchase individual tracks.
Its a double edged sword. Artists would be somewhat happy that their tracks are being played out by DJs who cant get a promo but have a download and at the same time unhappy that nobody buys their latest track because everyone has been playing it.

At the end of the day one person changing their tracks to listen only wont affect the masses of other blogs out there who want to attract more people if they have a normal download link but obviously it will help. Its like recycling, all of the recyling my little town does is outweighed by a couple of large business' that dont recycle.

But yeah if youre a blogger looking for popularity in a good way then its going to be tough. Listen only will descrease viewers and that a bullet that many wont bite

Is this 100 percent because some well compressed tracks can trick the analayser can they not?

What software is it as I would keen to run a few of my vinyl rips through it and see how they come out

I agree with what you're saying but I imagine the benefit an artist receives from other dj's getting hold of their record (who didn't receive a promo) is easily out-weighed by the hundreds, or even thousands, of other people who download it as these people almost certainly won't buy the official release if they already own a 320kbps copy.

And in some cases hundreds of thousands. Even if a small percentage would have bought the track anyway its still lost income and greatly reduces the longevity of the track. Like I really want to play Ready for the Floor remix out but I keep thinking that everyone will have heard it so many times. prob more to do with hot chips popularity rather than downloads but you get the point.

And its hard for your average newbie DJ to turn down a free lunch. Why so many decent well known DJs look for promos illegally. And then theres the argument that you shouldnt be playing out if you havnt bought every single track youre playing or received a physical promo. Its just not realistic in this moment in time. Thats why I give big respect the DJs out there that play 100 percent vinyl. I can totally see their point of view when someone turns up with all the latest tracks on CDR or a laptop full of unreleased stuff and they think 'here we go again'

Why would listen-only decrease viewers? Surely it would increase viewers because it is a way for people to listen to it and have them having to go to the site to do so?

Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

Where at? I haven't seen the proper version of Motor, or Army anywhere, and we have deduced that the version I put up of Momy isn't official

i use soundforge, it comes with a spectral analyzer.
it could be geniune seeing as i've seen SebastiAn tracks before that looked like transcodes. his production techique can trick some programs.

People will realise its listen only so they will go to somewhere else where they can download it. Its good if you are showing stuff that hasnt appeared elsewhere yet but many people dont check blogs to just listen to tracks. Id be interested to find out the numbers though but it would be tough to judge

So, Le_Coop, you think I should put it up as listen-only and see how it goes? I just got sent Motor (the official I assume because it isn't like the ones floating about), and it really isn't that good, what's your view (and check your email)

Oh sorry I thought you meant the EP has been leaked at 'the usual places', but you mean that when released, it will be available at the 'usual places' (itunes, beatport etc.)
