The Boy Wrote:When Justice came out there was nothing like them. A breath of fresh air. In my opinion they pretty much spearheaded the whole second coming of French dance and, if we look at the bigger picture the resurgence of dance music in general.I agree that they really brought this whole French House scene back to forefront, but saying the brought about a resurgence of dance music is a bit of a stretch. I don't think dance music has ever really stopped being popular, just that the stuff that is popular isn't really your kind of music. I mean, look at how popular Minimal has been these last couple years, I'd argue that in lots of places it's far, far more popular than Electro House, but looking at this board you'd think that Berlin had fallen off the map. Le_Coop, I think miss berlin has a point about people hearing a track and liking it because of who it is. I don't remember who it was that said it (it wasn't in this thread), but someone mentioned playing Soulwax's Rolling Stones remix and no one really liking it, then they found out it was Soulwax and they went nuts. It's something you definitely DO see happening a lot in this scene. Someone hears that the new Justice, SebastiAn, or whoever track is floating around and maybe they like it a little bit more because hey, it's Justice, it must be good. Just look at the opposite effect. I'm sure we've all had a moment, whether you'll admit it or not, where you heard a decent track from an unknown artist, then you find it's Tiesto or someone really terrible and you refuse to listen to it ever again. Isn't that basically the same thing, but with a negative impact instead of a positive one? Obviously in an ideal world hype would mean nothing, but it definitely has more of an effect than you claim it does. |
