Were the old dance music compilations good in their day, or just filled with as much crap as modern day mixes? I look back on Fantazia's House Collection 2 and The Ministry of Sound Annual 2 as being top notch CD's, but were they really just filled with that era's equivalent of Ian Van Dahl, the Freemasons, Bob Sinclar, Cascada, etc?

Yep.

The early Northern Exposure CDs were suprisingly good. Early Journey's by DJ's (Billy Nasty one is awesome.) Bit later the live at the social ones/Weatherall's 4 O'clock Drop/First Back2Basics CD in the metal tin. Theres a few there if you look for them.

Tourist,,,, it's our blog innit!
Mixes from Bill Brewster, People Get Real, Weatherall, Matt Waites, Underground Ressistance, Sean Johnston and of course us!! G'waaan!!

yeah the first Sasha & John Digweed Northern Exposure CD was class, erm.. the first two Renaissance ones, Ministry of Sound annuals were pretty whack then too from what I remember. Fantasia HC 1,2 and 3 were all good, (whatever happened to John of the pleased Wimmin?) Remember the Mixmag live series? I had loads of them, they were good. Cream Live 1&2 were good.

I loved the first Northern Exposure, it was like nothing I'd ever heard before and it completely blew me away. The first compilation I ever bought was House of Handbag, which I again thought was the dogs bollocks. Perhaps I just liked the annual 2 as it coincided with me being 16 and first getting into the idea of clubbing.
