Threaded Mode | Linear Mode

Looking to start a setup which will eventually have a turntable/preamp and what not attached but I'm just going to start with the shelf speakers first. Probably don't want to spend much more than 400 but if something that is extremely valuable is available for 500 then I'll go for it. I've found a few but does anyone have some recommendations?

Generally I don't think I can go wrong with online reviews and stereophile sites but I'm really looking for value for money to set up a good system keeping close to $1000.
