.... what if someone with only one working ear wanted to DJ... obviously they can't beatmatch
That makes no sense! How can't a person with one working ear not beatmatch?
Thats like saying a person with one hand can't write!

Did this sort of debate take place much when CDJ's were first introduced?

Of course, before long this discussion will be redundant as well and it will all be done on laptops.

Speaking of It's All Gone Pete Tong.... does anyone else sometimes use vibrations to beatmatch. When I'm having trouble nailing it sometimes I have both headphones and put my hand on a surface vibrating with the beat of the song playing. Actually works!

But surely you need split hearing to beatmatch.... ![]()
Surely if you had one ear in your headphones and the other didn't work you couldn't hear whats being played through the speaker...
or am I missing something out.... I'm confused

id say no it is not cheating...
i rock the NS7, and have experience with CDJs aswell...
every time new technology comes out there is ALWAYS controversy...
i remember when virtual DJ was first released haha...
the only issue with laptop Djing i find is that at times you can find yourself wave watching if you understand what im trying to say...
you tend to turn into a zombie watching sound waves move by and spend less time feeling the music and going with the flow...
although this isnt a BIG problem...its not DJing at its purest...so at times instead of having the laptop directly in front of me i have it off to the side so i pay more attention to crowd and also to decks/controller instead of to my laptop...
